"Warm Summer, Cool Art' is the name of the July exhibition in the Walburg Gallery at the Gallery Uptown. The public is invited to an opening reception for the exhibit from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday. At 7 p.m., the artists will give informative talks about their works. On Thursday, July 20, there will be a Third Thursday Talk in the Gallery at 7 p.m. Foley, Gentle and possibly other artists will show how they create their art. The show features the works of Marlan Cotner, Linda Foley, Skye Gentle, Tom Goote, Cyndi Casemier Johnson and Bette DelVecchio.

Several thousand dollars worth of electronics, jewelry, guns and prescription medications have been reported stolen during a series of daytime home invasions which occurred on the east side of Ottawa County over the last couple of weeks, police said. Police are looking for help in identifying any possible suspects. Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said the home invasions were reported between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at locations in Allendale, Tallmadge, Polkton and Jamestown townships. The incidents intensified on Monday, he said.

A Michigan man has paid a $1 Orlando parking ticket 36 years overdue. Orlando police said they received Stanley Baker's payment for a Nov. 7, 1975, parking ticket on Tuesday. The 89-year-old Pentwater man included a note reading, "Better late than never!' Baker's son said his father found the ticket in a book bought at an Orlando garage sale in 1995. He said his father decided to pay the fine as a lark, even though it wasn't issued to him.

Alcohol was a factor when a young woman ran a stop sign and hit the bedroom wall of an Ottawa County couple's home, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. The accident happened around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in the 5200 block of Eighth Avenue in Georgetown Township. The woman was driving a 2005 Chevy Equinox west on Barry Street when she failed to stop at the intersection where Barry ends at Eighth Avenue, Buter said. The woman, who is in her 20s, drove the sport utility vehicle across the lawn of a home and the SUV hit the bedroom wall.

Zeeland native Amber DeVoe has been missing in Boston for more than a week. Since her disappearance, Boston police have opened a missing persons case, while her friends and family are pleading with the public across the country for help. DeVoe's family has created a Facebook page, calling on the public for any information about the disappearance.

Eric Foster and Brooks McDonald have been teammates on the soccer field and baseball diamond for as long as they can remember. It started with youth league teams through the American Youth Soccer Organization, and on baseball teams with the Tri-Cities Kids League. It progressed with Strikers travel soccer teams and eventually, high school baseball and soccer squads at Spring Lake High School.

Kick off the holiday weekend with a free family movie at Spring Lake District Library at 2 p.m. Friday. The Wild West comes alive on Saturdays in July onboard the Coopersville & Marne Railway. "The Great Train Robbery' will take place on July 9, 16 and 23. The 200-seat vintage train leaves the station at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. each of those days for the 90-minute round-trip. Dance hall girls hand out costume jewelry and railroad dollars to all passengers. During the journey, outlaws on horseback chase the train, brave sheriff's deputies protect the passengers and there's a shoot-out in the badlands of Marne.

The Hope Summer Repertory Theatre's production of the award-winning musical "Return to the Forbidden Planet' by Bob Carlton will open Friday, July 8, at 8 p.m. in the DeWitt Main Theatre. The musical integrates the great works of Shakespeare and music of the 1950s.

Spring Lake pitcher Nick Keller said it would be "a blast' to continue his baseball career first at the community college level, and then possibly at a larger school down the road. Keller has taken the first step in realizing those goals soon, as he signed a national letter of intent last weekend to pitch at Glen Oaks Community College. Glen Oaks, which is located in Centreville, enjoyed tremendous success a year ago in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association standings, clinching the league title with a 24-6 record.

Spring Lake Township Clerk Carolyn Boersma has received the annual Township Clerk of the Year award from her peers. The Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks awarded the honor last week during the organization's annual conference in Bellaire. "I think it's a huge honor and a humbling experience,' said Boersma, who has served as the township clerk since 2004 following a term as the president of Kent City.

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when a pickup truck turned into his path in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township, police said. The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on East Broadway Avenue, near South Quarterline Road. Fruitport Township Public Safety Director Ken Doctor said the motorcycle was westbound on Broadway when an eastbound pickup made a left turn in front of the bike. The motorcycle collided with the truck, killing the rider, who was in his 40s. Investigators said they are still piecing together what led up to the collision.

Funds from an anonymous donor and from the Greater Ottawa County United Way will keep an after-school homework program going for another year. Community C.H.I.L.L. - a program for students from Lakeshore and White Pines middle schools - received $21,000 in funding, including $2,500 from an anonymous donor, said Kim Boersema, secretary to Lakeshore's principal and one of four people who run the program.
