The suspect also had a suspended drivers license and was on probation for that offense. He sped off when the officer attempted a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.
Police continued to pursue the suspect until he was blocked in by police cruisers near 21st Street and Graafschap Road in Holland, police said.
During the pursuit, the suspect sped through several residential areas, ignoring stop signs and traffic lights on the west side of Holland. Speeds reached as high as 60 mph.
The suspect drove through a wooded area off west 29th Street near Plasman, hitting several small trees in an attempt to elude the officer. The pursuing officer’s cruiser was damaged as a result of following the suspect; however no one was injured.
The suspect was stopped and taken into custody, police said. His vehicle, a red Chevy Blazer, was impounded for the investigation.
The suspect’s name is being withheld until after he is arraigned.
