The driver was identified and police questioned the 19- and-20-year-olds, who admitted to drinking. They agreed to take breathalyzer tests, and one person said that he had recently smoked marijuana, police said.

The driver gave the police permission to search the car, and they found a loaded .40-caliber handgun under the front passenger floor mat, police said. Antario David Jemison, the front seat passenger, told police he bought the gun and ammunition off the street in Muskegon “for protection.” He said the serial numbers had been removed when he purchased it.

Jemison was arraigned later Friday morning on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, altering a serial number on a handgun and possession of marijuana. He is lodged at the Ottawa County Jail and being held on a $10,000 cash bond. If found guilty of the first charge, a felony under state law, he could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $2,500.

Another man was cited for minor in possession of alcohol, according to the police report.
