Richardson and David Lee Eslick II, 23, also of Holton, were arrested shortly after the Oaklea Party Store, 10398 N. Cedar Drive, was robbed by gunpoint on the afternoon of April 19.

Eslick, who is in jail on $45,000 bond on charges of armed robbery and felony firearms, awaits final disposition on his case. He was scheduled to enter a plea on June 13, but that did not happen, according to a spokesperson from the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s office. A trial scheduled to start on Thursday has been adjourned.

No other court hearings have been scheduled for Eslick at this point.

Police were called to the store at the intersection of North Cedar Drive and 104th Avenue on April 19 after a masked man entered holding a gun and took money from the cash register, according to Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. A shot was fired outside the store, but nobody was injured, Bennett said.

A store employee provided police with a description of the suspects’ vehicle, which was pulled over on 104th Avenue, north of Lake Michigan Drive, by a detective responding to the scene.

The two suspects were arrested without incident within an hour of the robbery, Bennett said.

A weapon and money from the store were recovered, but not from the vehicle. Bennett would not reveal that location at the time.
