The gun, a Glock 9-mm handgun, was loaded, police reported. The man did have an Indiana permit for carrying the weapon.

Police responded to a second call for help, just 10 minutes later than the first call, at Jack’s Bar in the Holiday Inn. The bartender was attacked by a man to whom he refused to serve any more drinks, DeYoung said.

The 26-year-old Spring Lake man told police he was celebrating his birthday and admitted to being asked to leave the bar, police said. When the bartender — William Donaldson, 45, also of Spring Lake — repeated his request, witnesses said the patron made a rush at the bartender and the two fell to the floor. Donaldson’s leg was broken in the fall.

The patron fled the scene, but later returned and made contact with police, DeYoung said. He was arrested and taken to the Ottawa County Jail.
