Fire chief: Area departments did 'great' in emergency readiness test

The training exercise originated from the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs state convention, being held this week in Traverse City, during a presentation of the Michigan Fire Service Mutual Aid Box Alarm System. The staging chiefs kept in contact with convention personnel during the entire exercise via a conference telephone call.

A call was made to the alarm system in Lansing from the convention. The alarm then went out to the dispatching centers in the participating counties. Ottawa County Central Dispatch then toned out the alarm to the local departments.

Responding for Ottawa County were the Crockery Township, Ferrysburg, Allendale, Zeeland and Park Township departments. Coming from Muskegon County were firefighters from Muskegon Township, Dalton Township, Norton Shores, Egelston and North Muskegon. Personnel from Blue Lake and White townships, and Holton caught rides on their neighbors’ vehicles.
