Yonker said the teen was observed driving erratically at Beacon Boulevard and Fulton Avenue, and that’s when Grand Haven public safety officers began to pursue the vehicle. The teen then ran a stoplight at Beacon and Washington Avenue, at which time police began to activate lights and sirens.

After a short pursuit in which speeds eventually went as high as 80 mph, the driver of the SUV tried making a hard turn onto westbound Hayes, but instead crashed the GMC Yukon into a power pole and rolled into a culvert, Yonker said.

Yonker said the boy was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment and eventually released to his parents.

The case will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office and Family Court, Yonker said.
