Dustin James Magnuson, 18; and Zachary Ian Mikkelsen, 17, remain jailed on a $3,500 bond, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The police investigation has connected the men to about 30 incidents that occurred Nov. 10-19 in the township, Bennett said.

Sheriff’s deputies on patrol about 2 a.m. Saturday pulled over a “suspicious vehicle” occupied by one of the men in the area of Ferris Street and 152nd Avenue, Bennett said.

“Upon further investigation of those suspicious circumstances,” several articles of stolen property were discovered in the vehicle, Bennett said. The items included electronics, laptop computers, GPS devices and cell phones.

Bennett said the second man was located a short time later in the same area.

“It was learned both men were out in the Grand Haven Township area breaking into vehicles — and in one case, an attached garage — throughout the morning of Nov. 19,” Bennett said. “Further investigation revealed these two are responsible for incidents occurring as far back as Nov. 10.”

Bennett said the total value of the stolen items identified at this time is around $10,000.

Bennett said it appeared that the men would enter unlocked vehicles sitting near homes and remove the electronic items. In one case, they entered an unlocked garage and took items from a vehicle inside the garage, he said.

Magnuson and Mikkelsen are currently charged with larceny from a motor vehicle, and breaking and entering a motor vehicle — both felonies, Bennett said. Police are continuing to meet with the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s office to determine additional charges, he added.

Police are in the process of identifying and doing an inventory of the items believed to be stolen.
