Three Grand Rapids-area men were arrested early Wednesday after an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy pulled them over on a traffic stop and discovered stolen merchandise inside their car, Lt. Mark Bennett said.

The men, ages 18 and 19, were lodged in the Ottawa County Jail after the stop, Bennett said. Their names will not be released until they are arraigned.

Bennett said a deputy on patrol about 2 a.m. noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Lakewood Boulevard and 120th Avenue. The vehicle was stopped, and in it police found a flat-screen television, two laptop computers and a cell phone.

“After further investigation, the suspects admitted their involvement in a just-completed home invasion and several larceny-from-vehicle incidents,” Bennett said.

The men had allegedly entered a home in the 400 block of Wildstem Drive, near 160th Avenue and James Street, Bennett said. That’s when they removed the television and computers.

The home was occupied at the time, but the victims were not awakened or injured, Bennett said.

The other larceny cases are still being investigated.
