AP Wire • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:18 AM

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reported 65-year-old Samuel Pfeiffer Jr. brought the plane down Saturday in Antrim County’s Elk Rapids Township, about 15 miles northeast of Traverse City. Authorities said Pfeiffer told them the plane had engine problems.

Authorities said the plane traveled about 1,000 feet on the ground before hitting some trees. The plane’s right wing was torn off during the landing.

The Antrim County Sheriff’s Department said Pfeiffer’s wife, Martha; a 47-year-old friend, Shawn Husband; and two children, ages 8 and 11, were also aboard.

Husband and the 11-year-old had injuries that were not life-threatening, and they were treated at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
