Report: Auto thefts continue to drop in Michigan

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:21 AM

Since the inception of the ATPA in 1986, auto thefts in Michigan have fallen by 62 percent.

The authority’s executive director, Dan Vartanian, said the program’s success is the direct result of the efforts of his staff, the state’s law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorney’s offices, statewide community groups “and the many investigators around the state who are employed by the insurance industry.”

According to the ATPA, the most stolen vehicle in Michigan last year was the Dodge Ram pickup truck. The color of vehicles most likely to be stolen in the state last year was black; followed by white, red, blue and silver. The day of the week most vehicles were stolen was Tuesday; followed by Monday, Thursday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
