Police recover stolen GPS devices during traffic stop

Tribune Staff • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:22 AM

The devices may have been stolen from vehicles in the Fruitport area this past summer, police said.

Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police officers stopped the suspects’ vehicle in the area of Third Street and U.S. 31 on Jan. 31.

A rash of larcenies from vehicles took place in July 2011 in several Fruitport Township neighborhoods. Police said the items stolen in these incidents included GPS navigational devices, cash, sunglasses, radar detectors, and other electronics and valuables. Unlocked vehicles were specifically targeted.

The GPS devices recovered in the traffic stop have been linked to victims in some of the larcenies. No other information was released.

The case remains under investigation by Spring Lake/Ferrysburg and Fruitport Township police departments.
