Annette Gibson, 43, of Chicago is charged with five counts of financial transaction device fraud; while 22-year-old Ashunte Marie Crossley of Gary, Ind., is charged with two counts of the same charge, according to Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Both women remain in the Ottawa County Jail, each on a $200,000 cash bond.

According to police, the pair purchased several gift cards at Meijer, 15000 U.S. 31 in Grand Haven Township, at 3:30 p.m. Saturday using stolen credit card information. Meijer’s lost-prevention team alerted Ottawa County Central Dispatch as the women were leaving the store.

Police said they arrested Gibson and Crossley as they were heading south on U.S. 31.

During the preliminary investigation, officers discovered that the pair had committed the same type of fraud at the same Meijer store on Feb. 16, according to Bennett. Police said they also believe Gibson and Crossley are connected to similar credit card scams in several neighboring states.

“Several thousands of dollars is believed to be involved in the fraud,” Bennett said. “However, that number is preliminary and may go much higher.”

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department is working with state and federal agencies during their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Silent Observer at 877-88-SILENT.
