Ottawa County Sheriff's officials said neighbors called 911 after hearing several gunshots at about 7 p.m in the 10,000 block of Adams St. in Holland Township. When deputies arrived, they found 32-year old Jamie Brown, shot but still alive.
"She was immediately transported by ambulance to Holland Community Hospital. She later did pass away of her injuries," said Lt. Mark Bennett. "A second individual was found at the scene when deputies arrived. He was deceased. He had a single gunshot wound."
That second person was 34-year-old Aaron Brown, Jamie Brown's estranged husband and the man who shot her and then killed himself.
"It was apparent through dispatch tapes, 911 calls, and deputies' assessment, that the male individual on scene suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Bennett said.
The couple split in November and the wife was living on Adams Street with a relative.
"It was not uncommon for him to come over here, during their separation, to conduct normal business," Bennett said. "Today's visit turned tragic. He showed up with a firearm and began shooting."
Authorities are not sure if the couple had experienced violence in their relationship prior to this incident.
The shootings happened outside, in the backyard of the house. Several other family members were present, including the couple's child. No other injuries were reported. The child was released to other family members.
Deputies say forensic autopsies will be performed on Friday.
