Both the Fruitport Township Police and the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety are investigating cases in which credit cards have been stolen, then used to make purchases at area big-box stores.
In Grand Haven in early February, someone smashed out a window of a car parked near St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and stole a purse; then, with credit cards taken from the purse, made purchases at the Meijer store in Grand Haven Township and Target in Norton Shores. That case is still being investigated, said Lt. Joe Boyle of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Fruitport Township Police continue to seek help identifying possible suspects in separate credit card theft and fraud cases that occurred April 1 and 21.
Morningstar said a female victim reported to police that multiple credit cards she owns had been used fraudulently at various locations in Muskegon and Ottawa counties. She had been shopping Saturday at JC Penney, 5690 Harvey St.; and Meijer, 5300 Harvey St., when she discovered her wallet had been stolen. Credit cards that were in the wallet were subsequently used.
