Daniel Winsemius, 59, was killed Thursday in the wreck that left nine others injured in Fond du Lac County, Wis.
Sheriff's officials said all the motorcyclists involved in the crash are from Muskegon County, including Winsemius, of Twin Lake. A 25-year-old Hilbert, Wis., man was driving the car that struck the motorcyclists, police said.
Fellow Muskegon Motorcycle Gang member Jeremy Gradisher remembered Winsemius as a longtime member of the group whom everyone liked.
"Dan was a well-respected man. He and his wife, Deb, were always around for all the events," Gradisher said. "This group here is a close-knit family. They were a big part of it. What happened was just brutal. A few of our guys are injured very severely. It's rough."
Five motorcyclists, all from Muskegon, remained hospitalized Friday: Eric Vandam, 52; Douglas Williams, 58; Douglas Yonkers, 43; Garry Ferris, 52; and Leland Johnson, 59. Vandam, Williams and Yonkers were in critical condition at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wis.
Motorcyclists and others from across West Michigan attended a candlelight vigil Friday evening in Muskegon for the victims. Money from candles sold at the vigil will go to the families of those involved in the crash.
"A lot of people were effected by this," said Tim Horne, Winsemius' nephew. People are hurting."
The riders were taking part in the club's annual "Bridge Run" to the Mackinac Bridge and back.
