Henry Sanders had just stopped for gas at the Nunica EZ-Mart and was entering the ramp to get on eastbound I-96 when he lost control of his 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle, Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department said.

Sanders told police the motorcycle started to wobble and the back tire locked up. He drove off the shoulder and rolled the bike.

Austin said Sanders suffered a possible dislocated shoulder and broken collarbone. Paramedics from North Ottawa Community Hospital put his shoulder in a sling, and Sander’s wife picked him up and drove him to a hospital.

Sanders said he was in the process of accelerating up to 55 mph when the motorcycle malfunctioned.

Police said he was not speeding, there was no alcohol involved and Sanders was wearing a helmet.
