The house in the 1600 block of Elwood Street in Muskegon exploded at around 8:30 a.m. Sept. 23. Police said the teen had entered the house the night before the blast and removed metal — and, in the process, cut a natural gas line.
The teen is charged in Muskegon County Juvenile Court with malicious destruction of a building and breaking and entering. Later this week, a Muskegon County judge may decide if the case should move from juvenile to adult court.
The house was a vacant rental. At least three neighboring homes were also damaged from the explosion.
The boy is lodged in the Muskegon County Juvenile Detention Center.
Police are looking for another individual who may have been involved in the breaking and entering.
