Amber Pedicone, 20, was injured when she crashed her car while driving south on U.S. 31 near Hickory Street in Spring Lake Township shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said the passenger, Zachary Snider, 20, also of Muskegon, put his hands on the steering wheel while joking around with the driver. This caused the car to swerve to the left, striking the highway's median guardrail. The car then ricocheted off the guardrail, went across two lanes of traffic and into the ditch on the west side of the road, explained Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Pedicone was freed from the car by Spring Lake Township firefighters. She was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

Snider was not injured.

Kylie Snider, 1, was in the back seat of Pedicone's car and buckled into a car seat. Police said the baby was not injured.

The crash is still under investigation, Austin said.
