Family plans burial for girl, 13, slain in 2004

AP Wire • Jul 21, 2015 at 11:49 AM

Investigators saved Amanda Lankey's skull and hands as evidence after her body was found in a section of Manistee National Forest in Big Prairie Township, about eight miles from her friend's White Cloud home. She died from blunt force trauma to her head.

Amanda's mother, Vickie Foster, said police recently told her they now feel comfortable releasing her remains. Foster said a burial and a service are being arranged.

A person of interest in the case committed suicide in 2011. Authorities charged two other people with lying to a Newaygo County prosecutor during the investigation.
