The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department said a tip led investigators to a wooded area in Covert Township, about 55 miles southwest of Grand Rapids. Authorities found three areas where trees had been cut and marijuana plants were being cultivated. They also found what appeared to be campsites.

Empty fertilizer bags were found nearby, along with watering equipment.

Investigators said Wednesday they believe the growing operation may be connected to the one found in the area in August. In that case, nearly 1,800 marijuana plants were eradicated.
