A collision at 6:55 a.m. occurred when Candy Murat, 33, of Holton, was running late and lost control of her 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck on the entrance ramp from 68th Avenue to eastbound I-96, Austin said.

Murat’s vehicle slid around and hit a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix on the eastbound highway driven by Lauraine Navarre, 54 of Fruitport.

Murat was not injured. Navarre suffered minor injuries, but sought her own treatment, Austin said.

Shortly before 10 a.m., a Muskegon woman was injured when she lost control of her 2004 Trailblazer and rolled the vehicle.

Susan Fern, 54, was taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital by ambulance following the 9:52 a.m. crash, Austin said.

Fern was eastbound on I-96 when the vehicle started to shake. The woman lost control, spun into the cable guardrail near 68th Avenue and overturned, Austin said.

As traffic slowed to get around this crash, another collision occurred a short distance to the west on the freeway.

At 10:06 a.m., Max Schipper, 68, of Ludington, saw the slowed traffic and started to change traffic lanes in his 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. He struck another eastbound vehicle — a 2005 Dodge Caravan, driven by Beverly Shinsky, 49, also of Ludington.

Schipper, who suffered minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Austin said. Shinsky, also with minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

All of the vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts.
