Anthony Casanova has been arraigned on a charge of open murder. He demanded preliminary examination and continues to be lodged in the Muskegon County Jail. Judge Maria Hoopes denied bond.
A conference with attorneys was scheduled for Jan. 14.
The preliminary examination was scheduled for Jan. 16 at 1:30 p.m.
Casanova has retained Terry Nolan as his attorney.
Muskegon Central Dispatch received a call at 3:58 p.m. Friday from the 5687 Davis St. home about an infant that had been dropped and was no longer breathing.
Upon arrival, medical personnel found the baby boy was not breathing and not responsive, police said. CPR was initiated and the infant was transferred to Mercy Health Partners – Hackley Hospital.
“Tragically, the infant was pronounced dead a short time after arrival,” police said.
Several injuries observed on the infant appeared to be inconsistent with the story the father relayed to responding personnel regarding the cause of injury, police said. After a brief investigation, the child's father was arrested and lodged in the jail.
Casanova was arrested Friday and he's listed as being jailed on no bond.
The victim in this case has been identified as 10-week-old Tyler CASANOVA.
