The car was southbound on 168th Avenue when the driver turned east onto Taft and struck the bicyclist, who was westbound on Taft, police said.

The bicyclist, 55-year-old Joel Fynewever of Spring Lake, was not wearing a helmet. He struck his head on the windshield, police said.

He was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said this afternoon.

Both the bicyclist and the vehicle driver were ticketed.

The bicyclist received a ticket for failure to yield, police said. The driver received a ticket for improper lane use for cutting the corner too close.
