Emelene Van Dyke told an officer she was aware of the ongoing nationwide search for her and that she left Michigan on her own.
A Roswell, N.M., police officer spotted the missing woman's vehicle in a hotel parking lot on Sunday. According to the Holland Department of Public Safety report, Van Dyke noticed police were investigating her vehicle in the lot and she then approached the officer.
A Holland officer spoke to Van Dyke over the phone, and she confirmed that she was in New Mexico on her own free will and was not in any danger. Van Dyke said she was aware that police were looking for her, but decided to remain silent for "personal reasons," according to Holland police.
Van Dyke's family members were notified of the police contact with her, and that she was being removed from the national database and computer systems of missing persons.
