Fire departments in 8 communities getting $1.3M

Fire departments in eight Michigan communities are expected to get more than $1.3 million in federal grants to help with vehicle purchases and operations costs.

The grants from a Federal Emergency Management Agency program were announced Thursday by U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow of Michigan.

The Grand Haven Township Fire and Rescue Department is getting about $55,000 of the grant money.

Other communities getting a piece of the grant are Albion, Grayling, Rogers City, Hartland-Deerfield, Mellen Township, Melvindale and Marengo Township.
