Thomas Grinwis, 61, of Shelby, and his front-seat passenger, River Ollis, 13, of Pullman, were taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital following the 10:38 p.m. crash, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

They were treated for their injuries and released, a hospital spokesperson said.

A backseat passenger, Anne Coulier, 45, of Shelby, sought her own treatment for minor injuries.

Grinwis was northbound on U.S. 31 in a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, when he re-ended another vehicle stopped for a red light, Austin said.

The driver of the other vehicle, Eric Vanvalkenburg, 41, of Muskegon, was not injured.

All of the occupants in the two cars were wearing seatbelts.
