Authorities closed 8th Avenue north of Arthur in Ottawa County after the teenager, Jovany Viveros-Villa, was hit by the car just before 7 this morning.

The boy was crossing Eighth Avenue to board the Coopersville school bus when 79-year-old Grand Rapids resident Margaret Gessner hit him with her car. The bus stop sign was extended and lights were flashing on the bus.

His younger brother was also going to the bus, but the older sibling crossed first. The younger brother called 911 for help.

The older boy suffered numerous injuries, including broken bones, and remains in critical but stable condition at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, according to Ottawa County Sheriff's investigators.

A crisis team is at the high school to work with the nine children who were already on the bus.

The driver of the car and her passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash, and were treated at the scene.
