Leads sought in death of eagle

AP Wire • Jul 21, 2015 at 12:33 PM

The DNR said the shooting of the federally protected raptor happened Saturday in Clinton County, near Highland Hills Golf Club in DeWitt Township. A citizen retrieved the eagle and brought it to Sleepy Hollow State Park to turn it over to the state agency.

DNR Lt. Sherry Chandler said she is asking people with possible information on the illegal killing to call its Report All Poaching line at 800-292-7800.

Bald eagles first received federal protection in 1940 and state protection in 1954.
