One person was ejected from the vehicle in the crash.
Emergency personnel responded at about 12:45 p.m. to the incident on the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 adjacent to the West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics playground.
Sgt. Joe Steinhauer of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police department said the SUV was northbound on U.S. 31 when the 37-year-old driver swerved to avoid hitting a turkey that ran out into the road.
She hit the turkey, went off the road, over-corrected and the car grabbed and flipped, rolling down the hill next to the highway, Steinhauer said.
A 21-year-old Holland man was ejected from the vehicle, he said.
Also injured were the driver, two female passengers ages 15 and 19, and a 3-year-old boy. A 10-year-old boy was not injured.
Steinhauer said he believed everyone but the 21-year-old male was wearing a seatbelt or in a child seat.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, he said.
The victims were taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital and to a Muskegon hospital, Steinhauer said.
No tickets were issued in the crash, he said.
All of the people in the vehicle were from Holland.
Their names were not released.
