John Broad, president of Crime Stoppers of Michigan, said the cases often leave relatives frantic and they don't know what to do to help find their loved ones. His organization offers rewards for information on missing person cases.

National Missing Children's Day is Saturday.

The FBI's National Crime Information Center listed 3,976 missing persons in Michigan as of May 13, up from 3,015 in early 2012. Those figures don't specify locations.

Information about the cases is reported by authorities based on a number of criteria.
