Mill Point Park's name?

The original name of the Village of Spring Lake was the Village of Mill Point.
The Village of Mill Point was platted in 1849, according to local historian Dr. Dave Seibold in his book, "Grand Haven in the Path of Destiny." It was renamed Spring Lake in 1867, eight years after the name of the adjacent body of water was switched from "Big Bayou" to Spring Lake.
Yes, the area was filled with lumber mills in the 1800s, and Mill Point was no exception. The first one dates back to 1837. The name of the park at the south end of School Street honors that mid-19th century heritage.
