WZZM-TV • Jul 21, 2015 at 12:53 PM

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department was notified by a relative of an Allendale Township homeowner at 10:13 a.m. that a break-in of the home was in progress. No one was home at the time. The relative had been checking the home in the 10000 block of 64th Avenue, as the owners were on vacation.

Deputies found a man in the garage. The man then fled back into the home when he noticed the officers.

After repeated attempts to establish dialogue with the suspect, the home was entered by a Sheriff's Department tactical team and K-9 unit.

Even when found, the suspect failed to comply with the deputies, and the man sustain non-life-threatening injuries while being taken into custody, said Lt. Mark Bennett. No officers were hurt in the scuffle.

Troy Michael Kalman, 27, was in possession of several articles of the victim's property when he was arrested, Bennett said.

Kalman is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital. The Hudsonville-area man is also wanted on several outstanding warrants for similar crimes, Bennett said.

The incident remains under investigation.
