Barbara Ramoie, 58, was thrown from the smaller boat and suffered a head injury. An ambulance transported her to North Ottawa Community Hospital. Her condition was not available Monday night.

Ramoie was a passenger on a 17-foot Starcraft, which was anchored in Lake Michigan south of the  Port Sheldon pier, according to Sgt. Chris Koster of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

Larry Baum, 57, of Grand Haven, was also on the boat. He was not injured.

Police said the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Sunday when a 36-foot boat piloted by Steven Rescorla, 58, also of Grand Haven, had a mechanical failure.

Rescorla turned to look at the engine compartment, turned back and saw the anchored boat in front of him.

He was unable to turn out of the way because of the mechanical problem, Koster said.
