Police said all of the injuries in the 1:40 p.m. crash were minor.

Dwayne Evans, 52, of Muskegon was eastbound Comstock, in the center turn lane.

When the light turned green, he proceeded to turn his Toyota Camry north into the path of a westbound Dodge Durango.

The Durango ended up in a field northwest of the intersection. Evan’s car spun around and landed on the southwest side of the road, partway down into the ditch.

Evans claimed the Durango wasn’t there when he started to turn, that the vehicle came up fast.

He and his passenger, Willard Moody, 44, of Muskegon, were eventually placed on backboards and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Durango, Gladys McCombs of Grand Haven, said she was slowing for the red light when it changed to green.

“I started speeding up and the car from the other direction started turning,” McCombs said. “I slammed on my brakes.”

McCombs was not injured.

Her 19-year-old passenger, her niece, Rebecca Gould of Grand Haven, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Police said Evans would be ticketed for failure to yield.

Emergency personnel at the scene included the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety, Grand Haven Township Fire Rescue, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department and North Ottawa Community Hospital ambulance.
