Matthew Glenn Fisher, 32, of Grand Haven demanded a preliminary examination when he was arraigned Thursday morning in 58th District Court. A conference with attorneys is set for next Tuesday.

“The case is not associated with his employment and does not involve the church,” Grand Haven Public Safety Director Jeff Hawke said.

Police said the 3-year-old daughter of Fisher’s girlfriend suffered a broken leg in the incident. Court documents say Fisher “did cause serious physical harm to a child by using unreasonable force on the child’s leg.”

Officials from the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven confirmed Fisher was a youth pastor at the church for several years, but had left employment there about two years ago.
