Events at Comerica Park in Detroit and Cooley Law School Stadium in Lansing on Tuesday kicked off the Fourth of July period crackdown.
Police officers, sheriff's deputies and state troopers are working on the federally funded patrols.
The crackdown will involve nearly 150 agencies in 26 counties, including Ottawa and Muskegon.
During last year's Fourth of July crackdown, the state said 115 motorists were arrested for drunken driving as a result of extra patrols.
