Randall Spriggs, 50, of South Bend, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spriggs and the 2013 International semi, driven by Andrew Wember, 45, of Muskegon, were both westbound on I-196 when the crash occurred at 12:09 p.m. Sunday near the Adams Street exit, said Capt. Steve Kempker of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicles were approaching a construction area and the semi had slowed to about 5-10 mph because of a traffic back-up, Kempker said. It is unknown why Spriggs’ car hit the back of the semi.

Police noted just prior to the crash, Central Dispatch received a call that the Spriggs car was weaving about its lane and had crossed over the fog line several times.

The crash is still under investigation.
