Indiana man killed in crash with semi on I-196

Randall Spriggs, 50, of South Bend, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spriggs and the 2013 International semi, driven by Andrew Wember, 45, of Muskegon, were both westbound on I-196 when the crash occurred at 12:09 p.m. Sunday near the Adams Street exit, said Capt. Steve Kempker of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicles were approaching a construction area and the semi had slowed to about 5-10 mph because of a traffic back-up, Kempker said. It is unknown why Spriggs’ car hit the back of the semi.

Police noted just prior to the crash, Central Dispatch received a call that the Spriggs car was weaving about its lane and had crossed over the fog line several times.

The crash is still under investigation.
