River fire training

Ferrysburg firefighters were shown the operation of the fire boat and how it can supply water to a fire truck. A water supply line was attached from the boat to the fire truck, where it then supplied the truck with water.
Different water pressures were used to show the boat’s capability to supply water in case of an actual fire, in which it could be used to assist the fire department. The fire boat can act as a fire hydrant on the water.
After supplying water to the fire truck, Ferrysburg personnel were then given firsthand experience on the operation of the fire pump. They sprayed water to see the pumping capability and distance the water can shoot.
Sgt. Cal Keuning of the sheriff’s Marine Division said both departments walked away from the training session with a better understanding of what the equipment can do and how well it can perform under high pressure.
“Personnel from both departments worked on radio communication and how to communicate if an actual event occurred,” he said. “Training together is critical in having a smooth operation in an event of a real fire or rescue.”
