William Joseph Goodale, 36, was driving his Ford F150 truck south on 56th Avenue in Polkton Township at about 4:10 p.m. when he tried to pass a southbound John Deere tractor pulling a trailer. As Goodale was passing, the tractor turned left into a private driveway south of Taft Street, and the tractor struck the pickup, said Sgt. Kevin Allman of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The collision forced the pickup into a ditch and it rolled onto the driver’s side. Goodale was reportedly unconscious and pinned in the truck for a short time before being extricated by Polkton/Coopersville firefighters.

Allman said Goodale was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Downtown Hospital in Grand Rapids, where he was listed in serious condition Tuesday evening. He was wearing a seat belt and his truck’s airbag did deploy, Allman said.

The tractor was being driven by Neal Arden Bouchard, 47, of White Cloud. Allman said he was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, Allman said.
