Norton Shores police said their investigation led them to obtain search warrants for several locations in the Grand Rapids area. This included Wyoming, Kentwood, Grand Rapids and Caledonia.

Based on evidence that was collected, police arrested Elamin Muhammad, 37, of Caledonia. He was charged with armed robbery, second-offense felony firearm and fourth-offense habitual offender.

Muhammad is being held in the Muskegon County Jail on a $1 million cash bond.

On July 14, a suspect took the gas station clerk into the back room, but the clerk grabbed a gun and fired 10 shots at the suspect as he fled the store.

Police said a second suspect has been identified in the case, but investigators are still working to develop sufficient probable cause for charges.

Police said criminal charges will not be filed against the gas station clerk who fired at the suspect from a handgun.

The multi-agency investigation included officials from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Grand Rapids Police Department, Wyoming Police Department, Michigan Department of Corrections and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
