Motorcyclists hurt in crash in Spring Lake

Both the driver of the motorcycle, Lawrence Obenauf of Grand Haven and his passenger, Tina Twerago of Grand Haven, were taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the car, Jackie Lindrup of Muskegon, said she was driving north on Cutler Street and stopped at the stop sign at Savidge Street. She proceeded to cross the intersection when traffic stopped, but said a semi-truck in the inside westbound lane blocked her view.

“There was lots of traffic,” Lindrup said. “It was just bumper-to-bumper traffic. I knew I couldn’t make a left-hand turn, so I tried to go straight across.”

Lindrup said she was almost all the way across the intersection when the motorcycle on the inside lane struck the rear passenger section of her car.

A man driving behind the motorcycle, who declined to give his name, said westbound traffic was stopped in the inside lane, but not the lane he was in.

He said it didn’t look like the driver of the car could see the motorcycle.

“They met at the same time,” he said.

The man said people immediately jumped out of their cars to give aid to the motorcyclists.

Police said Lindrup was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
