An Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy said all of the injuries were non-life-threatening and all three people in the two vehicles were wearing seat belts.
A pickup truck traveling east on Leonard Road was broadsided by a Volvo station wagon, which was southbound on 152nd Avenue. Police said the station wagon — driven by Tanja Stroessner, 33, of Spring Lake — failed to stop for the stop sign at Leonard Road and hit the eastbound truck driven by Scott Ely, 49.
Ely is the curriculum director for Spring Lake Public Schools. His daughter, who was a passenger in the truck, told neighbors that they were on their way to Jeffers Elementary School for an open house when the crash happened.
Ely’s daughter was treated for injuries at the scene of the crash and released, police said.
Spring Lake Public Schools Superintendent Dennis Furton said Wednesday morning that Ely was treated at the hospital and released.
"He's resting at home," Furton said of the former Spring Lake Middle School principal.
A North Ottawa Community Hospital spokesperson said Stroessner was also treated and released.
Ryan Carlen, who lives at the corner of Leonard and 152nd, said he ran outside after hearing the crash. He said the woman in the Volvo got herself out of the vehicle and he helped her sit down. Carlen said other neighbors helped the Elys.
Spring Lake firefighters assisted at the scene.
