“There’s an element of fear for your employees,” Cihacz said when asked about her reaction to the call she received from a store clerk the morning of Aug. 30 when the Express Lane gas station was robbed. “They (police) handled it well.”
That was all she would say about the armed robbery at the gas station on the corner of Robbins Road and 172nd Avenue.
“At this point, we are not allowed to say anything about what happened,” the Grand Haven woman said.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives are still trying to identify the suspects caught on surveillance video during the incident reported at 2:55 a.m.
A black man and an unknown woman entered the store together. The man pulled out a handgun and ordered the clerk to open the cash register, said Sgt. Matt Wildfong of the Sheriff’s Department. Once the clerk complied, the man ushered her into a back room and bound her to a chair with duct tape.
During that time, the female suspect emptied the cash register, Wildfong said.
Money and lottery tickets were taken from the store, said Capt. Mark Bennett of the Sheriff’s Department. Detectives are trying to track down the tickets.
Police are also trying to enhance the store video for better identification of the suspects. They are interviewing possible witnesses and continuing to seek any information people might have about the robbery.
