Music for the end of the world?

What music would you like to hear at the Apocalypse?

Grand Haven music blogger Brett Billedeau has given this a lot of thought.

In a recent post titled “Soundtrack for the End of the World,” Billedeau lists several songs he would like to hear, ranging from Johnny Cash to AC/DC.

“This post is meant with gallow's humor, tongue planted firmly in cheek,” he wrote. “The concept jokingly came about in my head when listening to the first song on this list and I thought, ‘This is the soundtrack for the end of days.’ As the idea swirled, I thought, my goodness, there are several songs which, if the world were to end, they'd be what I'd hear in my head.”

For instance, he lists Cash’s “God's Gonna Cut You Down”:

“There are so many great versions of this song (Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Elvis Presley, many bluegrass and folk singers, even Tom Jones), but they were all too upbeat to properly convey the Lord's reckoning. The Man In Black recorded this less than three months before his death, lending even more credence to the Old Testament-style lyrics of God's punishment for immoral ways.”
