The Muskegon County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of a 20-year old Fruitport Township man following what detectives call an underage drinking party. The party was Friday night east of Muskegon, in the woods off Wolf Lake Road, near Evanston Avenue, police said. The investigation started Saturday morning when Travis Trowbridge was reported missing.

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when a pickup truck turned into his path in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township, police said. The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on East Broadway Avenue, near South Quarterline Road. Fruitport Township Public Safety Director Ken Doctor said the motorcycle was westbound on Broadway when an eastbound pickup made a left turn in front of the bike. The motorcycle collided with the truck, killing the rider, who was in his 40s. Investigators said they are still piecing together what led up to the collision.

Supporters of a proposed casino at the site of the former Great Lakes Downs horse track in West Michigan plan to continue pushing for the project after the governor decided against signing an agreement with an American Indian tribe for off-reservation gambling. Gov. Rick Snyder's office on Friday said he wasn't currently willing to sign the agreement. The Republican governor's administration plans to focus on other economic development initiatives with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, spokeswoman Sara Wurfel said.

Two firefighters were injured Thursday night while putting out a blaze that was started by a gasoline-powered generator in the basement of a home in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township. The fire started about 9:45 p.m. Fruitport Township Fire Chief Ken Doctor said a fuel tank on top of the generator ruptured as firefighters entered the room, causing a flash fire that burned two of them. One firefighter had second-degree burns to a leg and the other had first-degree burns to his face, Doctor said. They were treated at the scene.

The 2011 National Senior Health & Fitness Day will take place at The Lakes Mall on Wednesday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Across the country, more that 100,000 older adults will participate in local events to promote healthy, active aging. At The Lakes Mall, there will be vendors with giveaways; several fitness demonstrations; opportunities to participate in activities such as yoga from 11 a.m. to noon, Zumba from noon to 1 p.m., tai chi from 1-2 p.m., line dancing from 2-3 p.m. and pickleball all day.
