Garbage truck misses stop sign, hits car, utility pole

The driver of an Allied Waste garbage truck told police he experienced a mechanical problem when he slid through a stop sign, hit an SUV, then took out a train gate and a utility pole about 10 a.m. Monday.

The 52-year-old Spring Lake woman who was driving the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital.
