Spring Lake Memorial Day Celebration
SPRING LAKE -- Hundreds of residents lined Village streets to watch fire trucks, horses, Boy and Girl Scout troops and the Spring Lake Marching Band honor veterans with a 1-mile parade on Monday.
Lifelong resident Robert Twa, 92, served as parade marshal.
The procession ended at the Spring Lake Township Cemetery where second-graders Emily Fett (Jeffers), Caroline Henry (Holmes) and Sydney Noorman (St. Mary's) read their winning Memorial Day essays.
Local officials then read the names of veterans who have died in the past year, followed by a gun salute and playing of Taps.
Members of the Spring Lake Heritage Festival committee passed out more than 2,000 American glags along the parade route.
