Flight over Grand Haven's shore
The images also caught many people continuing to defy warnings from officials of unsafe ice near the Grand Haven pier.
Emergency personnel have rescued several people in the past few weeks who suddenly fell through the deceptive ice.
“The ice is not safe,” Grand Haven Public Safety Director Jeff Hawke told the Tribune for a story last month. “Those that walk on the ice are putting themselves and rescuers at risk.”
Spring Lake resident Gary Mack told WZZM-TV that he worries about emergency responders who would have to risk their lives if someone falls through the ice. He advises people to use common sense.
"You wouldn't bring your child next to a freeway, so why would you stand way out on the lake like that, when you really don't know what’s underneath you?” Mack said.
