The Grand Haven school district will welcome some new faces when the 2011-12 school year begins in a few weeks. The following individuals are new Grand Haven Area Public Schools teachers and staff:

Eliminating all fried food cooked at Grand Haven High School is one of several changes coming to the school's cafeteria. Installing a new conveyor-style oven will be one of the cafeteria's "major upgrades,' replacing the school's deep fryers - according to Donna Bylenga, Grand Haven Area Public Schools' director of business services. Bylenga said the school has been diminishing its fried food stock in recent years.

Two Muskegon teens are in trouble with the law after they were observed brandishing an Airsoft gun at 5 p.m. Thursday near Beacon Boulevard and Taylor Avenue in Grand Haven.

Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma returned to his hometown of Grand Haven last week to vacation and run his annual youth hockey camp in Grand Rapids. On Friday, he enjoyed a morning of charter fishing aboard the boat "Reel Pursuit,' captained by Ken and Jason Steigenga. Joining Bylsma on board was Grand Haven's Jay Brace, who submitted the winning bid at the Grand Haven Christian School auction last spring for the opportunity to enjoy a morning out on the water with the reigning National Hockey League Coach of the Year.

A wedding at Central Park forced the pirates to Loutit District Library's parking lot, and a thundershower Saturday afternoon forced them indoors to the library. "It was drenching rain,' said Andrea Jones, one of the vendors at the Michigan Pirate Festival. "However, being pirates, we're used to life aboard ship - and being on the sea, we get wet. So we're used to it.' The library closed at 5 p.m. Saturday, sending the pirate fest back outside to the library's parking garage.

The lower level of Loutit District Library turned into an art gallery on Friday, filled with colorful paintings and pieces of art all with a pirate theme. Andrea Hendrick, who was visiting the gallery with her children - Dallis, 5; Annabelle, 2; and Hudson, 9 months - said the pirate art gallery was interesting. "It's beautiful,' she said of all the art on display. "They have tons of great art.'
